Key & Crate

Privacy policy

What we collect, what we do not, and what happens when you click a product link. Written to be read rather than to be impenetrable.

Last updated

The short version

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and there is nothing to log in to.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information. We have never done so.
  • We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which guides are useful. That sets cookies and collects a truncated IP address.
  • If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email and message by email so we can reply. That is all it is used for.
  • When you click a product link, Amazon sets its own cookie so it can attribute a purchase to us. That is Amazon’s cookie under Amazon’s policy, not ours.

The rest of this page is the detail.

Who we are

Key & Crate (this website) is published by Iron Mako Media. For any question about this policy or about data we hold, email contact@keyandcrate.com.

What we collect

Information you give us

Only through the contact form: your name, your email address, an optional subject category, and your message. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list — we do not have one.

Contact messages are delivered to our email inbox and retained there as ordinary correspondence. If you would like a message deleted, ask and we will delete it.

Information collected automatically

Like essentially every website, our hosting provider records technical information in server logs — IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time, and the referring page. These are used for security and to diagnose faults, and are retained for a short period by the host.

What we do not collect

  • No accounts, passwords or profiles.
  • No payment information. All purchases happen on the retailer’s site, never here.
  • No precise location data.
  • No advertising profile. We run no ad network and no retargeting pixels.
  • Nothing knowingly collected from children under 13.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people find useful, how they arrive, and where pages fail them. It is the only analytics tool on the site.

Google Analytics sets cookies and collects a truncated IP address, approximate location derived from it (usually city level), device and browser type, pages viewed, and events such as clicking a product link or submitting the contact form. We see this as aggregate reporting, not as individual people.

Google is the data processor for this, and its handling is governed by Google’s privacy policy. You can opt out across all sites using Google’s browser opt-out add-on, and any browser setting or extension that blocks analytics will block ours.

Affiliate links and cookies

We are an Amazon Associate and earn commission on qualifying purchases — see the affiliate disclosure.

When you click a product link, two things happen. We record the click in our own analytics so we can see which guides are useful. Then you arrive at Amazon, which sets its own cookie so that a purchase made within its attribution window is credited to us.

That cookie belongs to Amazon, is set by Amazon, and is governed by Amazon’s privacy notice, not ours. We do not receive your name, your address, your payment details or a list of what you bought. Amazon reports to us only aggregate figures: how many items were ordered and the commission earned.

Cookies, in plain terms

Three kinds of cookie are involved with this site:

  • Analytics cookies, set by Google Analytics as described above.
  • Retailer cookies, set by Amazon after you click through, for purchase attribution.
  • No advertising or retargeting cookies. We run no ad network, so there are none.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them does not affect your ability to read anything here.

Third parties involved

  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery. Processes server logs.
  • Google Analytics — site analytics.
  • Amazon — product data, images, and purchase attribution when you click a product link.
  • Microsoft — email delivery for contact form submissions.

We do not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone else, and we have never done so. We would disclose information only if legally compelled, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to its processing, or to opt out of its sale — which is straightforward in our case, because we do not sell it.

In practice the only personal information we hold is contact-form correspondence in our email inbox. To ask about it, or to have it deleted, email contact@keyandcrate.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: we do not respond to Do Not Track headers, because there is no agreed standard for what compliance means. We do not sell personal information in any case.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. We hold very little personal data, which is the most effective security measure available to us. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, and we would not claim otherwise.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it. For anything significant we would say so plainly rather than quietly editing.
