The Lite 4.0 is the air fryer we recommend by default in our air fryer roundup, for an unglamorous reason: the basket and the crisper plate both go in the dishwasher, it is one of the few compact fryers with a published noise figure, and 4 quarts is the right capacity for one or two people. It took that slot from the Ninja AF101, which Ninja has discontinued.
As with everything on this site, we have not run this through a test kitchen — we do not have one, and we are explicit about that. This is an assessment from published specifications, the physical design, and the consistent patterns in owner reports and independent reviews.
The measurements that actually matter
Air fryers are returned more often than almost any other kitchen appliance, and it is nearly always a measuring failure rather than a performance one. Three numbers:
| Measurement | What to check | Why it catches people |
|---|---|---|
| Counter width | About 11 in needed | The body is 10.6 in square. Fine in most kitchens; the usual failure point in a galley. |
| Counter depth | About 11 in, plus 3 in behind for airflow | The handle adds a couple of inches at the front, and the rear vent must not face a wall. |
| Height to upper cabinets | About 13 in for the unit | 12.8 in without the handle — fine at 18 in clearance, but check you can lift the basket out in place. |
That third one is the subtle one. The unit fits under the cabinet, but if you have to slide it forward every time to use it, you will stop using it. Check the whole operation in place, not just whether the box fits.
Cleaning, which decides whether you keep using it
Both the basket and the crisper plate are nonstick, BPA-free and dishwasher safe on this model. That sounds minor and it is the single best predictor of whether an air fryer stays on the counter or migrates into a cupboard after a month. Hand-scrubbing a perforated crisper plate after every meal is genuinely tedious.
Two practical notes. The dishwasher is fine but hand washing extends any nonstick coating’s life — the same logic as cookware coatings. And do not line the basket with foil or parchment unless food is holding it down; loose liners can be drawn into the heating element.
One thing reviewers flag that listings do not: anything wet — marinated chicken, or frozen food with ice on it — pools liquid in the bottom of the basket under the plate. It is a thirty-second pour-off, but it is every time.
The noise, which nobody mentions in listings
Independent reviewers measure this one in the 55 to 60 dB range, which is roughly conversation volume and quiet for the class. It is the only pick in our roundup with a published figure, which is part of why it is the default.
It is still audible. In a separate kitchen that is irrelevant. In a studio where the kitchen and the sofa are in the same room, twenty minutes of fan noise over a TV is a real daily cost — just a smaller one here than on most of this class.
What 4 quarts actually holds
- Two chicken breasts, in a single layer, comfortably.
- About a pound of fries — enough for two as a side, not as a meal.
- One portion of wings, properly spaced. Two portions means two batches.
- Roasted vegetables for two. Four means stacking, and stacked food steams rather than crisps.
The constraint is always single-layer area, not volume. Cosori markets it for one to three people; two is where it is comfortable. If you routinely cook for three or four, you want a toaster-oven style unit instead — see our air fryer vs toaster oven comparison.
What it does not do
This is the honest trade against the AF101 it replaced, and against the Instant in our roundup. The Lite is a fryer and very little else.
- No dehydrate, bake or broil. You get five presets — chicken, fries, bacon, steak, vegetables — plus preheat, a shake reminder and keep warm. If this appliance is standing in for an oven you do not have, buy the Instant Vortex instead.
- 450°F is hot. Fifty degrees above the usual compact-fryer ceiling, which is genuinely better on chicken skin and genuinely easier to overshoot. Start at the low end of any recipe written for a 400°F machine.
- The app is optional, but not every feature is on the unit. Scan-to-cook, voice control and the recipe library live in Cosori’s VeSync app. The fryer cooks perfectly well without ever connecting it.
- The glossy touch panel shows every fingerprint. Cosmetic, constant.
Who should buy something else
- A counter under 12 inches wide — buy the bella Slim, which is built tall and narrow for exactly this.
- No usable oven — you want broil and bake, so buy the Instant Vortex or a toaster-oven combo.
- The tightest possible budget — the Chefman does the same core job for less, with a coating that will not last as long.
- A dorm room — most housing contracts prohibit air fryers outright. Check before ordering; see what not to bring to a dorm.
The short version
- Measure about 11 in wide, 11 in deep plus 3 in of rear clearance, and 13 in tall — in place.
- Dishwasher-safe basket AND crisper plate. This is why it is the default pick.
- 4 quarts is two portions in a single layer. Stacked food steams instead of crisping.
- It air fries and that is all — no dehydrate, no bake, no broil.

Common questions
Is the Cosori Lite 4 qt basket dishwasher safe?
Yes — both the basket and the crisper plate, and both are BPA-free. Hand washing will extend any nonstick coating’s life, but the dishwasher option is the reason this model gets used rather than stored.
How much counter space does the Cosori Lite 4 qt need?
The body is about 10.6 inches square, so allow 11 inches of width, 11 of depth plus roughly 3 inches of clearance behind it so the vent is not blowing into a wall. It stands 12.8 inches tall without the handle, which clears standard 18-inch cabinet clearance — but check you can lift the basket out in place without sliding the unit forward.
Does the Cosori Lite air fryer have a dehydrate setting?
No. It has five cooking presets — chicken, fries, bacon, steak and vegetables — plus preheat, a shake reminder and keep warm. There is no dehydrate, bake or broil. If you need those, the Instant Vortex in our roundup has them.
Do you need the app to use the Cosori Lite?
No. Temperature, time and the presets are all on the unit. The VeSync app adds scan-to-cook, cooking notifications, voice control and the recipe library — useful, not required.
Is the Cosori Lite 4 qt loud?
Less than most. Independent reviewers measure it at 55 to 60 dB, around conversation volume, which is quiet for a 1,500-watt fryer. Every air fryer is audible — a hard fan in a small chamber is how they work — but this one is at the quieter end.
